The Battle of Badr took place 2 years after the Hijrah. This was the first battle that the Muslims engaged in with the disbelievers, and it is, by far, the most famous because some of the most extraordinary events took place during it. The Muslims went out with just over 300 men whilst the opposition came out with an army which was over 1000 strong. The Quraish wanted to make this into a victory that would put fear into the hearts of the Muslims. They wanted to crush the Muslims once and for all and the odds were overwhelmingly in their favour. However, they had underestimated the Muslims and the final result left them running away from the battlefield in disgrace and utter humiliation.
